Mineral filters have a reputation for grey films. Formulation, not the filter itself, is usually the reason.
Zinc oxide is white. What determines whether it reads as a cast is particle size, dispersion and whether the formula carries a tint to counter it.
Look for micronised zinc in a well-dispersed base, and apply in two thin layers rather than one thick one. Two passes reach the same protection with far less visible film.
Reapplication matters more than the filter you chose. A stick or a powder over makeup at midday will outperform a perfect morning application that is never topped up.
